The Southwest Wake Athletic Conference girls basketball coaches had an easy pick for player of the year.

Senior Grace Hunter, who ended her career as the fourth Wake County public school player to reach the 2,000-point mark, was awarded the honor after leading the conference with 30.8 points per game.

Hunter’s coach, Dayna Jordan took SWAC coach of the year.

Every team in the conference placed at least one player on the all-conference list.

SWAC champion Athens Drive (22-6, 12-2) also placed senior guard Brinae Thornton (9.8 ppg) on the first team.

Runner-up Apex (16-8, 11-3) had junior Elle Hepburn (10 ppg) on the first team and senior Mia Castagnero (9.7) on the second team.

Holly Springs junior point guard Brianna Tate made the first team after leading the Golden Hawks (17-7, 10-4) in points (14.0), steals (4.0) and assists (2.7). Junior Caila Spruill (8.0 points, 7.2 rebounds) earned a spot on the second team.

Green Hope (13-9, 8-6) had sophomore point guard Kelly Fitzgerald (14.7 ppg) on the first team and senior post player Brandi Mosser (9.1 ppg) on the second team.

The SWAC’s second-leading scorer, Middle Creek senior Holly Hite (17.7 ppg) made the first team and was the only Mustangs (13-12, 6-8) representative.

Panther Creek junior Jasmine McKoy (8.0 ppg) made the second team for the Catamounts (7-16, 4-10) as did Fuquay-Varina senior Amber Roberson (9.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg) for the Bengals (8-15, 3-11).

Cary’s only all-conference pick was Imps (4-18, 2-12) senior Meredith Courtney (11.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg).

Hunter and Castagnero end their careers as three-time all-conference picks.

Tate, Spruill and Hite have made the team in back-to-back seasons.
