2 women die in house fire near Creedmoor

Fire that destroyed a single-story home claimed the lives of two women Wednesday afternoon, according to Granville County Sheriff Brindell Wilkins.

Eileen Carmack, 87, and her daughter Cindy Carmack, 49, both died in the blaze that happened around 2 p.m. on the 2500 block of U.S. 15 South, about 1 mile north of Creedmoor, Wilkins said.

A male relative was initially thought to also be in the house, but authorities later located him at his place of work where they conveyed the tragic news to him.

Wilkins said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but the initial investigation did not indicate anything suspicious.
