Pet food donations

SAFE Haven for Cats is accepting donations of pet food from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 8431 Garvey Drive, #137, Raleigh.

Mail letters to Santa

A mailbox is set up at Briggs Hardware in downtown Raleigh through Dec. 24 where children can mail letters to Santa. The store is located at 111 E. Hargett St., Raleigh.

Pullen Park meeting

The city of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department will present options for improvements to the Pullen Arts Center and North Pullen Park during a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Pullen Community Center, 408 Ashe Ave., Raleigh. For details, email

Environmental award

Raleigh is accepting nominations for the 2016 City of Raleigh Environmental Award for a person, group, organization or business whose actions have strengthened Raleigh’s sustainability. Grease collection

The city of Raleigh is collecting used cooking oil and grease through Jan. 15. Residents and places of worship must call the city’s Solid Waste Services Department at 919-996-6890 to participate in free curbside pick-up.

Holy Yoga class

Square dancing classes

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department offers square dancing for youth and adults from 7 to 9 p.m. every Monday at the Wake Forest Community House, 133 W. HIPPY Home Instruction

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a free home literacy program for low-income English- and Spanish-speaking families with children ages 3-5.
