Off to Run

Off to Run’s Winter Running Program will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Shelley Lake, 1400 W. Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Run eight Wednesdays in January and February with a group for $50. For details, go to

Redhawks registration

The North Raleigh Redhawks rugby team has opened registration for the spring 2015 semester. Boys and girls from pre-K to 12th grade are invited to join. Younger age groups play non-contact/touch, while the older groups play tackle. For details, go to

Karate classes

Karate Kenpo classes are offered from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for youth, and 7 to 8:30 p.m. for adults, at Millbrook Exchange Park, 1905 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh. Monthly fee is $45. The instructor is Bill Parsons of the Triangle Kenpo Institute.

Pickleball open play

Play pickleball from 8 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays on the tennis courts at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St., Wake Forest. Pickleball is played on a badminton court with a lowered net, a perforated plastic baseball and wood paddles. It is easy to learn but can develop into a competitive game for experienced players.
