The N.C. Highway Patrol on Thursday released the names of the couple killed last Wednesday in a head-on crash on N.C. 210. The patrol also said troopers had filed two charges against the 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle.
Robert Sherrill McGee, 81, was driving the couple’s Dodge pickup east with his wife, Melba McLamb McGee, 79, when a westbound pickup truck driven by David Michael Walker Jr. crossed the center line near Lassiter Road and smashed into them, the Highway Patrol said.
The McGees, who lived at 605 McGee Road near Benson, died at the scene, troopers said.
Walker, who lives at 1472 Evan Road near Princeton, was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh with injuries that troopers said were not life-threatening. He was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of the center line.

Hugo Flores Jimenez, 41, of 6162 Swift Creek Road near Smithfield, was riding with Walker, and EMS workers took him to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield, also with non-life-threatening injuries.
Walker’s 2015 Chevrolet truck kept moving for a short distance after hitting the McGees, and a Kia passenger car hit the back end of the Chevrolet, troopers reported.
The Kia’s driver, Liane Patrice Buckmon-Hatley, 52, who lives on N.C. 210, was taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries. From staff reports
