Faith Notes: Oct. 19

Fall events

A fall festival is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Oakland Presbyterian Church, 8927 Cleveland Road, Clayton. The festival will offer games, face painting, cakewalks, a pumpkin-carving contest, costume contests for children and adults, and hot dogs.

Trunk or Treat is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. Enjoy treats and games. Wear a costume if you want.

Plates of barbecued chicken will be on sale from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in the Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church fellowship center on Wood-Lee Road, Four Oaks. The cost is $8 per plate, with takeout available. An auction will begin at 7 p.m.

The women of First Pentecostal Holiness Church will hold a Harvest Sale Saturday, Oct. 25, at the church, 1000 Wilson’s Mills Road, Smithfield. Hot dogs will be for sale from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The Harvest Sale will begin at 6.

A fall festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church, 2595 Lassiter Road, Four Oaks. Chicken pastry, green beans, sweet potatoes and desserts will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $6, with takeout available. An auction will run from 7 to 11 p.m. During the auction, the church youth will sell hot dogs, hamburgers and sweets.

A fall festival is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Baptist Center Church, 2163 Ranch Road, Clayton. The festival will feature a bounce house, games, candy and a hot dog dinner.

A bazaar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Elizabeth United Methodist Church, 4269 Cleveland Road, Smithfield. Bingo play will run from noon to 2 p.m.

Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its annual Harvest Day sale Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Pomona Creech Community Building on Brogden Road five miles east of Smithfield. Supper will be at 6 p.m. An auction of crafts, baked goods, flowers and other items will begin at 7 p.m.

Support groups

“Surviving the Holidays,” a support seminar, is scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3414 N. Shiloh Road, Garner. The seminar is for those grieving the loss of a loved one or going through divorce during the holidays. The seminar is free, and child care is available on request. Gospel music

The Hickory Grove Bluegrass Boys will sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 5312 Meadowbrook Road in the Meadow community.

For adults

For young people

Trunk & Treat is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church at the corner of West Anderson and South Sumner streets in Selma. The event, for children to age 12, will feature a hot dog lunch, a bounce house and cotton candy.

A youth prayer rally and parade is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, on the Town Square, 110 W. Main St., Clayton. Organizers invite the community to come together and light a candle for our youth. For more information, call Jacqueline Gathers at 919-391-8087.

LOGOS, a faith-based program of education and fun for children and youth, has launched at Providence Presbyterian Church, 14664 N.C. 210 near McGee’s Crossroads. Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church in Selma offers Mother’s Morning Out, a free child-care program. While moms run errands or go to appointments, their children take part in Bible stories, activities, crafts, music and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through May 20. Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church will celebrate Harvest Sunday on Oct. 19. Sunday School will begin at 9:45 a.m. The worship service will begin at 11. Revival services are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and 7 p.m. Oct. 20-24 at The Church of God, 202 N. Fourth St., Smithfield. The Rev. Edward Williams of Smithfield will speak. He is pastor of The Church of God in Concord.

A program titled “100 Women Under the Blood” is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Salvation Deliverance Temple, 420 E. Market St. in Smithfield. The church asks women to wear red.
