Rouzer gets committee post
U.S. Rep-elect David Rouzer, the Republican who will take the seat now held by Rep. Mike McIntyre in the 7th District, will be the chairman of the House Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee.
Rouzer’s office said the Agriculture Committee’s new chairman, Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, appointed him.
“Congressman-elect Rouzer has a strong background in agriculture,” Conaway said in a statement. “His experience as an administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and general knowledge of agriculture will be an asset to the House Committee on Agriculture.”

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over policies related to livestock, poultry, dairy and seafood. It also oversees aquaculture, animal welfare, grazing, foreign agriculture assistance and trade promotion.
Rouzer will also serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The Town of Smithfield will move its Dec. 25 garbage collection to Dec. 24 and its Jan. 1 collection to Dec. 31.
