Teacher appreciation

January is Teacher Appreciation Month at Lone Star Steakhouse. Through Jan. 31, educators can receive a free Texas Rose starter or dessert brownie at any Lone Star in North Carolina. In Johnston County, Lone Star is at 13049 U.S. 70 Business West.

Business After Hours

The Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce will hold its next Business After Hours on Thursday, Feb. 12. The social is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at Aspect Financial, 312 S. Third St., Smithfield.

Financial Peace University – 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3-March 31, at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center, 135 Bestwood Drive, Clayton. Learn money management from financial guru Dave Ramsey. The class is free. The book is $109. It’s available at daveramsey.com/fpu/home/.

N.C. Taxes & Your Small Business: Where Do I Start? – 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Workforce Development Center. The class is free.

Microsoft Office Suite Level 1 – 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 5-26, at the Workforce Development Center; also, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays, May 14-June 4, at the Workforce Development Center. Learn Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook. The fee is $71.

Quickbooks – 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Workforce Development Center. The accounting software is popular with small businesses. The fee is $125.

Moving From Staff to Supervisor: Are You Ready? – 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3-24, at the Workforce Development Center. Learn tips to excel in your new role as a supervisor. The fee is $70.

Hospitality Heroes – Feb. 1-28 and April 1-30. The online course introduces students to the tourism industry in Johnston County. The focus is on customer service. Notary Public – 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Benson Conference Center, 303 E. Church St., Benson. The fee is $70; the required book is separate.
