Grant Masini, a senior at Corinth Holders High School, has been named a semifinalist in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship program.
During a recent English class, Masini got the surprise news from guidance counselor Karen Morrison, Principal Chase Ferrell and his father, Louis Masini.
Masini qualified as a semifinalist by earning one of the highest scores in the state on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. He will learn in February if he is a finalist.
Merit Scholar finalists are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies. They compete for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth a combined $35 million.
