Smithfield police on Thursday ended a months-long investigation with the arrest of 27 people on drug charges, according to interim chief R.K. Powell.
Operation Summer Blues targeted more than 40 suspects initially, Powell said. Those arrested face charges of selling controlled substances.
In all, they face 190 felony charges, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamines and opiates.
Smithfield police carried out Operation Summer Blues with help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the N.C. Department of Public Safety, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the Selma Police Department.
