Workshop for artists
The Johnston County Arts Council and Johnston Visitors Bureau invite artists to a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Lampe Building, 235 E. Market St., Smithfield. Art in Clayton
Artwork by Carolyn Howard and Amy Devereaux of Clayton and Medrith Nuttle of Zebulon are on display this month at the The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St. Howard works in mixed media, Devereaux in photography and Nuttle in acrylic on canvas. The exhibit will run through October. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
‘Porsche by Design’
The Fine Art Department at Johnston Community College invites Johnstonians to travel to Raleigh on Oct. 29 for an exhibit at the N.C. Museum of Art. “Porsche by Design” features 20 automobiles owned by Ralph Lauren, Steve McQueen, Janis Joplin and others.
The trip will depart JCC at 9 a.m. and return before 3 p.m. The transportation cost is $15 at the ticket booth and $16 online at www.johnstoncc.edu/performingarts. Exhibit admission, payable at the museum, is $18 for adults, $15 for military personnel and adults 55 and older and $12 for ages 7-18.

Southeast Regional Library in Garner is offering a number of arts programs.
• The Ebony Raleigh Area Group Stitchers will discuss quilt making at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
• Andy Kasab will perform a mix of American and world music on the harp guitar at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.
• Explore classic literature by British authors at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Handbuilding – 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 22-Nov. 26, and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 17-Nov. 21. The cost is $100 for residents and $125 for nonresidents. Also, students must purchase a 25-pound bag of clay.
Children’s art class
Children 18 months to 3 years can experiment with dough, pudding, gelatin, crayons and watercolors from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Fridays at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. For residents, the cost is $5 per class or $19 for four classes. For nonresidents, the cost is $7 per class or $27 for four.
