Variety show in Selma

Here are upcoming performances of the American Music Jubilee, the musical variety show at the Rudy Theatre in downtown Selma: 7:40 p.m. Saturday, June 1; and 1:40 pm. June 8, 15, 22 and 29. separately, a show titled “Elvis Meets Patsy” is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, June 15.

Army band at JCC

The 440th Army Band will play an Independence Day concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium at Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. Music, arts in Clayton

The annual Millstock Music and Arts Faire is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1, on Horne Square at the corner of Lombard and Main streets in downtown Clayton. In addition to music and art, the event will feature a sidewalk chalk art contest and an arts and crafts booth for children.

Photos on display at Clayton library

“God’s Kenya,” a photo exhibit by Deborah Coates, is on display this month at Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library, 100 S. Church St., Clayton. Coates took the photos during a mission trip to Kenya with Hocutt Baptist Church in Clayton and Bay Leaf Baptist Church in North Raleigh.

Watercolors on display

Watercolors by art students of Jim Brown are on display this month at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market St., Smithfield.

The following have works on display: Carolyn Allen, Joanne Dunn, Carolyn Faison, Sally Heiderman, Janet Lampe, Tammy Langston, Ann Ragland, Pat Tabler, Betty Jo Watkins and Betsy Williams.

Separately, an art collection donated to the library by the county’s Center for the Academically and Intellectually Gifted has been relocated to a more visible and permanent location in the library’s main foyer.

The collection includes works by the following: local artists Dorothy Hooks, Frank Creech and Susan Avera Booker; Jim Davis of “Garfield” fame; Marcus Hamilton and Ron Ferdinand, who pen “Dennis the Menace”; and Hilary Price, whose “Rhymes With Orange” comic strip appears in the News & Observer.

Music at Melody’s

Ceil and Dan Duo will perform popular folk music from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Melody’s Coffeehouse, 117 N. Third St., Smithfield.

Open Mic Night is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

Drama camps at Neuse Little Theatre

The Neuse Little Theatre will hold summer drama camps June 10-21 at The Hut, 104 S. Front St., Smithfield. A camp for children ages 8-12 will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a camp for ages 13-18 will run from 2 to 5 p.m. Students will learn acting techniques, technical skills and theater terminology.
