Farmers complete business program
Two Johnston County residents are among the graduates of the sixth annual Ag Biz Planner, a prroject of AgCarolina Farm Credit.
Andy House of Selma and Irv Smith of Clayton took part in the program, which teaches young, beginning and small farmers the business skills needed to manage and grow their operations.
Along with online coursework, the farmers work with an AgCarolina Farm Credit loan officer who serves as a mentor. Mentors provide guidance to farmers as they work through the course and create a business plan for their operation.
“Being able to work with farmers who are developing their business plans gives us an opportunity to share our expertise in agricultural lending,” said Dave Corum, AgCarolina’s president and chief executive. “AgBiz Planner is a great way to acquire useful financial and business-management information for anyone’s farming operation.”
