Robin A. King, age 73, of Southern Pines, NC passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC. Robin was born November 24, 1940 in Smithfield, NC; to the late John Harold King and Margaret Barnes Aycock King.
Robin attended Smithfield High School where he was a member of the revered state championship football team of 1959. He went on to graduate from East Carolina University with a degree in Health and Physical Education in 1966.
Robin was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from May 1966 to November 1970. He was stationed aboard the USS Forrestal with Senator John McCain during the fire and subsequent explosions that killed 134 sailors and injured 161 in July of 1967. Robin was a Hospital Corpsman and member of the medical staff on the ship. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions and bravery during the fire and aftermath on the USS Forrestal.
Robin was employed by Ingersoll Rand until his retirement in 1998. Robin was a member of the VFW Post 109 in Aberdeen, NC.

Robin is survived by two adult children, Aaron King of Aberdeen, NC and Katherine (Kate) King of Raleigh, NC and one brother, John Harold King II, of Venice, Florida.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in memory of Robin to the charity of one’s choice.
