Mrs. Effie Austin Barbour went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 11, 2014 at the age of 106. She was a loving, faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and great great great grandmother. She was faithful to her church as long as she was able. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Rev. J. Vernon Barbour; a son Thurman Rudolph Barbour; a grandson, Ricky Perry Mooneyham; her parents Lonnie and Louie Austin; brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Samuel, and John; and sisters, Minnie, Dora, Alice, and Bessie.
She is survived by two daughters, Louise Overby and husband Rotha of Four Oaks, and Irene Mooneyham of Smithfield; sons, Erich Alfred Barbour and wife Evelyn of Raleigh, John Everett Barbour and wife Barbara, Vernon Clifton Barbour and wife Patricia, Linwood Owen Barbour and wife Violet, all of Clayton, and Clarence Auther Barbour and wife Barbara of Kenly.
Also surviving her are fifteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; twenty five great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchildren; one sister, Addie Wallace of Smithfield; lots of nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her because of her love for all.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at West Calvary FWB Church in Smithfield with Rev. Charles Petit and Rev. Jason Hurt officiating. Burial will follow in Powhatan FWB Church Cemetery in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service, and at all other times at the home of Irene Mooneyham, 118 Hobson Lane, Smithfield, NC 27577.
