Florence Elizabeth Massengill Walker, RN, 94, of Rollins Avenue, Hamlet, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Friday, February 21, 2014, as a result of a heart attack, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC, surrounded by her family.
Florence was born in Four Oaks, NC, in Johnson County on Sunday, October 26, 1919, the daughter of the late Ransom Lee, Sr. & Lillie Ethel Snead Massengill. Her paternal grandparents were the late James Robert & Mary Elizabeth Lee Massengill. Her maternal grandparents were the late William Robert & Katie Florence Lassiter Snead.
In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her late husband Robert Lee (Hiram) Walker, Sr. and two brothers, Ransom Lee Massengill Jr. & Major Wilton Rudolph Massengill.
She is survived by, daughter Roberta Walker Butler & Earl Butler of Hamlet, NC; son Robert Lee (Bubba) Walker, Jr & Gwyndolyn Martin Walker of Matthews, NC; two sisters Mrs. Hilda Massengill Overfelt of Fayetteville, NC, and Mrs. Sarah Massengill Williamson of Raleigh & Ocean Isle Beach, NC; three grandsons; one grand-daughter; eight great-grandchildren.

A Florence Massengill Walker Nursing Scholarship is established at the Hamlet First United Methodist Church to honor her memory and dedication to nursing. A memorial can be sent in her name to First United Methodist Church, 300 Charlotte Street, Hamlet, NC 28345.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 25, at First United Methodist Church, Hamlet, from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
The Funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Deborah Wilkins and Rev. Jason Darden, her grand nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Roberta Butler, 124 Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet.
