East Smithfield had ‘Fun in the Park’
The East Smithfield Improvement Organization celebrated its second annual “Fun in the Park” July 26 at Smith-Collins Park in Smithfield. The event was designed to bring the residents together in fun, information and unity during a day at the park.
We believe all the children of Smithfield should have a quality public park to enjoy, and thanks to the Town of Smithfield, Smith-Collins Park is just that to the residents of East Smithfield.
“Fun in the Park” was a great success. More than 200 children and adults attended the event, and everyone had a great time. We had games for all ages including basketball exhibitions, water slides, bounce houses, bingo for adults, pizzas, hot dogs, chips, snow cones, cookies and sodas. We had drawings for toys, games and gift cards donated by various businesses and individuals. ID cards were made for children.
Thanks to the people who donated cash, games and food, we were able to offer everything for free. Our company sponsors included Walter Sanders Funeral Home, Stevens Sausage, CiCi’s Pizza, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Walmart, Applebee’s, Chick-fil-A, Sheetz, Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell, Burger King, Sun Auto Wash, Guy C. Lee, the Johnston County Citizens Association, Johnston Central Alumni Association, Smithfield Progressive Men’s Club, Mitchener Memorial Baptist Church, Shiloh Christian Church and the Raleigh Area Development Authority. We would also like to recognize the following individuals for their contributions: Orlando Haley, Jerome Brown, Dale Hamm, Rod Ford, Rossi Merritt, Louise Sewell, Ralph Watson, Sonya D. and Shawn L. Williams, Dexter Williams and all the volunteers who gave their talents and time for this community event.
Our organization was established to improve East Smithfield and make Smithfield a better place to live, work and play. We meet every fourth Wednesday at 6 p.m. at various churches in the neighborhood.
We thank the Town of Smithfield for its assistance in restoring Smith-Collins Park and look forward to more cooperation in the future. Now citizens, we must keep the park safe and clean for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks to all the members and residents who helped with our “Fun in the Park” event. Please visit our Facebook page, East Smithfield Improvement Organization, to see pictures of the event and follow all our activities throughout the year.
