Youth basketball

Registration for youth basketball with the Smithfield Parks Dept. has been extended until Oct. 31. Leagues are offered for boys ages 5-18 and girls ages 5-12 (as of Dec. 31). The cost is $40-80. Practices begin in late November and games start in January.

Fright Night 5K run

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Haloween-themed 5K race and a 1-mile fun run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. There will be family fun beginning at 4:30 p.m. To register, visit or contact Gaston Orahood at or 919-934-2148, ext. 112. Proceeds will benefit Friends of the Park, the Miracle League Park and Rotary service projects.


Pickleball is offered on Fridays at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center from 2-4 p.m. on Fridays. Members of the SRAC play for free; others pay $2. The paddle, balls and net are provided. Info: Tiffany at 919-934-2148, ext. 112.

Aquatics, fitness programs

The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of aquatics classes and fitness programs. Visit or call 934-1408 for more information. Offerings include Cycling, Zumba, Hip Hop Hustle, Piyo, Turbo Kick, Total Body, Tai Chi, Inferno Cycle, P90X and Cycle Fusion. For more information regarding classes, please call 934-1408.
