South Johnston Trojan Baseball Camp
The 2015 South Johnston Trojan Baseball Camp will be held June 15-18 from 9 a.m. until noon daily at Bruce Coats Field on the campus of South Johnston High School for ages 6-14. South Johnston head coach Aaron Parnell will lead the camp staff. The fee is $80 per camper. Coach Parnell will be at the field at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 15, for late registrations and questions. South Johnston High grad and former MLB player John Raynor will be a guest speaker during the camp.
State Wiffle Ball Tournament
The 27th Annual state Wiffle Ball Championships will be held July 18-19 at Smithfield Community Park. The entry fee for the 4-on-4 event is $80. Bats and balls will be provided, as well as umpires. Individual trophies for first and second place will be given, as well as an MVP and an All-Tournament team. State Games in the Triangle
The Powerade State Games returns to the Triangle this year. More than 13,000 athletes and 750 teams will participate in 24 different sports at more than 30 venues across the Triangle. Registration for many sports is still available. For info: poweradestategames.org.
Bulldog Golf Classic
The inaugural Bulldog Classic Golf Tournament, a three-person superball golf tournament to benefit the Princeton High School football program will be held on Friday, July 24, at the Cardinal Country Club in Selma. The event features a 1 p.m. shotgun start and the entry fee is $180 per team. Included will be a putting challenge, longest drive, closest to the pin, hole-in-one and par-3 birdie awards, awards for the top teams and a post-round dinner. State Games High School Baseball Showcase
The Powerade State Games High School Baseball Showcase will take place June 17-21 at the USA Baseball Complex, N.C. State University, Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill. The High School Baseball Showcase pits the best 20 underclassmen players from eight North Carolina regions against each other to battle it out in front of over 80 college and professional scouts for the gold, silver and bronze medals. Only high school underclassmen (2016-18 graduates) are eligible to participate. 2015 Horse Show Series
The Johnston County Horse Show Series offers fun and exciting shows while still maintaining a down home atmosphere that encourages family participation. The shows, mostly held at the Johnston County Livestock Arena near Smithfield, are open shows that welcome riders and horses/mules from all riding levels, breeds and disciplines. JCHSS offers classes in Halter, Western, Working Western, Hunters & Jumping, Dressage Suitability, Trail, Miniature equines, Driving and English. Classes are placed through eighth place with 21 championship divisions per show. Show dates for 2015 are May 31, June 27, Sept. 19, Oct. 31 and Nov. 14. A three-day show is also set for Aug. 7-9 at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh. A negative coggins test within one year is required. Tarheel Seniors Golf Association
The Tarheel Seniors Golf Association will hold 16 events this year across the area this spring and summer with events at The Neuse, River Ridge, Falls Village, Bentwinds, 12 Oaks, Zebulon Country Club, Lochmere, Devils Ridge and Eagle Ridge. Entry fees are $30-40 per event, which are usually held on Mondays. Four flights of play are offered. Real Heroes Wrestling Club
Local high school wrestling coach Kristian Stewart is resuming the Real Heroes Wrestling Club in Johnston County. The club is for kids of all ages interested in amateur wrestling in N.C.
