Smithfield-Selma didn’t have any margin for error in Tuesday’s Two Rivers 3A Conference girls golf match with just three golfers entered. Turns out the Spartans didn’t need any margin for error.
SSS took the first league match of the season with a 146 total, posting three scores of 52 or lower in the nine-hole match at the Country Club of Johnston County.
Parker Watson led Smithfield-Selma with a 43, while Natalie Hill carded a 51. Maggie Riley rounded out the Spartan scoring on their home course with a 52.
SSS finished four strokes ahead of Triton, whose Kathryn Elliott tied Watson and Corinth Holders’ Peyton LaBonte for second individually.
South Johnston’s Sydney Wheeless was the individual medalist with a 42 on the afternoon. South took third place with a 151, three strokes ahead of Corinth Holders.
Anna Weaver added a 54 for Trojans and Taylor Capps shot 55 for the Pirates.
Cleveland took fifth at 171 with Megan Long finishing at 56. Western Harnett rounded out the field at 175.
The conference stays in Johnston County this coming week, heading to Reedy Creek Golf Course for its next match.
Garner wins GNRC match at River Ridge
Garner dominated a Greater Neuse River 4A Conference match at River Ridge on Tuesday, carding a 10-stroke victory.
The Trojans, led by medalist Kayla Ward’s 39, finished at 136 for the afternoon.
Tylor Whitley shot 40 for Garner as well to take second individually. Natalie Allen had a 57 as well for the Trojans.
Clayton was second with Katherine Dull (45), Madyson Scott (50) and Sophia Woznichak (51) all finishing in the top five individually.
West’s Megan Britt tied Woznichack for fifth, while Grace Olmstead added a 57 for the Wildcats, who were third at 166.
Knightdale (169), Rolesville (179), Southeast Raleigh (183) and East Wake (187) also posted team scores.
