Selma Railroad Days Run/Family Fun Walk
The 5k Run is open to all and is a USATF sanctioned race that begins at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Webb and Waddell Streets in Selma on Oct. 3. Registration is $15-20 and includes a T-shirt and runners bag (while supplies last). Awards for 5K are presented for overall and age groups place winners. All fun walkers will be presented a medal. Selma Corn Hole Classic by the Tracks Tournament
A corn hole tournament held in conjunction with Railroad Days in Selma on Oct. 3, starting at 11 a.m. The entry fee is $30 per team. The champion team will receive a trophy and all participants receive a T-shirt (while supplies last). All participants must throw from the 30-foot line. Register by Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. The field is limited to 24 teams.

Youth basketball in Smithfield
Registration for youth basketball with the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department is open until Oct. 16 for boys ages 5-18 and girls ages 5-12 (as of Dec. 31, 2015). Practices will start in November, with games beginning in January. The fee is $40-88 per person.
Open play Saturday tennis
Tennis players ages of 7-16 can work on their tennis game with James Reid (Smithfield-Selma High Tennis Coach) at Smithfield Community Park Saturday mornings through the end of October from 9-11 a.m. Coach Reid will be there to assist with your game, and to run some drills. No registration is required; racquets and balls will be available to borrow.
The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center offers tadpole swimming at the Splash Park from 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesdays for age 3-12. Rates are $2-3 for residents or $4 - 5.50 for non-residents. Info: Tiffany Pearson at 919-934-2148, ext. 107.
The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center offers swim lessons for individuals with plans catered to the swimmer's needs. The cost is $45-66 for three lessons or $85-110 for five lessons. Group Fitness Classes at the SRAC
Free fitness classes are offered to Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center members throughout the week. Classes include water aerobics, cycling, hybrid fitness, Tai Chi, yoga and Zumba. Schedules are available at the SRAC or online at sraconline.com. Day passes are available for purchase for non-SRAC members.

Youth Fall Basketball
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department will offer youth basketball for ages 7-17 for boys and ages 5-15 for girls this fall. (Ages are as of Dec. 31.) Practices begin in Novemeber and games run from December through early March. There are typically two games or practices a week. The fee is $25 for residents/family annual members or $60 for others.

Tae Kwon Do
This Tae Kwon Do program for ages 7 and up focuses on self-confidence, discipline and physical fitness. The instructor, Joey Reeder, is an International Tae Kwon Do Federation certified black belt. Regulation uniforms are not mandatory. Testing to advance in belt rank is done for an additional fee. Classes start on the first Tuesday of each month and run from 6-8 p.m. Fees are $25-40.
Clayton Community Center Memberships
Memberships for use of the Clayton Community Center are available through the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department for residents of the Town of Clayton and non-residents. Non-residents rates vary from $50-160 yearly (depending on ages/numbers of family members), $8-20 monthly or $6-10 monthly. Residents fees are only $5 per year.
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department is always looking for volunteers. Opportunities include park beautification, special events and work in the community garden.
