SRAC Summer Camp

Art, swimming, sports and outdoor fun are some of the activities children ages 5-12 will take part in during the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center Summer Camp beginning June 13 and ending Aug. 12. Camp weeks are June 13-17, June 20-24, June 27 – July 1, July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29, Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12. Camp is from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily. Campers need to bring their lunch, two snacks, a towel and a swimsuit daily. The fee is $100 to $137.50 per camper, per week. Early drop off or late pick up is an additional $25 a week. Spartans Football Camp

The Spartans Football Camp for ages 6-14 will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 15-17 on the Smithfield-Selma High School football practice fields. The fee is $35 and payable to Wes Hill.

Networks Basketball Boot Camp

Networks Basketball Boot Camp will be held on Tuesday nights for elementary (entering grades 2-5), middle school (entering grades 6-8) and high school (entering grades 9-12) students from June 14 until Aug. 9 at Smithfield Middle School. Basketball Camp

A basketball camp for ages 7-14 will be held at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center from 9 a.m. until noon daily. James Robinson, a former high and middle school coach, will lead the camp staff. The fee is $40 and payable to James Robinson.

Tennis Camp in June

Tennis camps for ages 5-7 and 8-14 will be held June 27-29 at the Smithfield Community Park tennis courts. Local coach Jimmy Jernigan, with more than 30 years of experience, will lead the camp staff. Camp for ages 5-7 is from 6-7 p.m. and camp for ages 8-14 is from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The fee is $30 for ages 5-7 and $50 for ages 8-14.

Spartans Baseball Camp

The Spartans Baseball Camp for ages 7-14 will be held June 27-30 at Smithfield-Selma High School. Camp is from 9 a.m. until noon daily and will be directed by Mike Sliger, the head coach at SSS. The fee is $50 and payable to Mike Sliger.

Volleyball Camp

A youth volleyball camp for girls ages 8-14 will be held June 29 until July 1 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Camp is from 8 a.m. until noon daily. The fee is $60 and payable to Kim Smith. Smith, the camp director, is a former high school coach and played collegiately at Clemson University.

Spartans Tennis Camp

The Spartans Tennis Camp will be held July 11-15 at the Smithfield-Selma High School tennis courts for ages 5-16. Camp for ages 5-10 runs from 6-7 p.m. and camp for ages 11-16 is from 7-8 p.m. SSS tennis coach James Reid will direct the camp. The fee is $40, payable to James Reid.

Spartans Basketball Camp

The Spartans Basketball Camp in Smithfield is set for July 11-15 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center gym for rising 3rd-8th graders. Camp is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily. Smithfield-Selma High boys basketball coach Matt Cuddington will lead the camp staff. The fee is $40 and payable to Matt Cuddington.

Smithfield Soccer Camp

A soccer camp for ages 5-14 will be held July 18-21 at the Smithfield Community Park soccer fields. The camp will be directed by Steve Brush, a nationally accredited coach, and Morgan and Amber Brush, former college players. The fee is $50 per camper and payable to Steve Brush.

Free Tennis Clinics

Free tennis clinics with Smithfield-Selma High tennis coach James Reid will be held June 11 and July 9 in Smithfield. The June 11 clinic is for ages 5-at the Smith Collins Park tennis courts. The July 9 clinic is a family tennis day at the Smithfield Community Park courts. Both clinics start at 9 a.m. and run for 90 minutes. Some racquets will be available for use.

State Wiffle Ball Tournament

The 28th annual N.C. State Wiffle Ball Tournament will be held July 16-17 on the Smithfield Community Park soccer fields. For more info, visit ncwiffleball.weebly.com or call Jeff Davis at 919-915-2280.

Youth Football

Sign-ups for youth football with the Smithfield Red Devils will run from June 13 until July 15. Teams play in the Johnston County Youth Football League with age groups 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 (as of Aug. 1). The cost is $40-88. Games are on Saturdays and some weeknights. Practices begin in August; games start in September.

Red Devil Cheerleading

Cheerleading for ages 5-12 with the Smithfield Red Devils football team will open in mid-June. Practices will begin in August. The uniform cost is $50; participants purchase and keep their uniform. The fee is $25-55.

Pickleball in Smithfield

Beginning in mid-June, Pickleball will be offered at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center on Fridays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Play is free for SRAC members, $2 for others. Equipment will be provided. Info: Tiffany at 919-934-2148, extension 107.

Fall Youth Soccer

Registration for fall youth soccer with the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department is open from July 11 until Aug. 12 for ages 5-12 (as of Aug. 1). The fee is $35-77.

Fall Men’s Open Softball League

Sign-ups for a men’s open softball league with the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will run from July 11 until Aug. 12. The fee is $475 per team with 12 teams in the league. Fees must be paid before the season, which begins after Labor Day.

Kinder Soccer

Kinder Soccer registration in Smithfield will be open Aug. 1-19 with games in September. The program is for ages 3-4. The cost is $20-44.

Soccer Referee Clinic

Anyone age 15 or older and interested in refereeing recreational soccer for the Johnston County Athletic Association soccer league is invited to a clinic on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. The clinic will be held at 2 p.m. The event is free and light refreshments will be served.

Youth Fall Basketball

Registration for youth fall basketball with the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will be held Sept. 12 until Oct. 21 for girls ages 5-12 and boys ages 5-15 (as of Dec. 31). The cost is $40-88.

Swim Lessons

The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center offers swim lessons for individuals with plans catered to the swimmer’s needs. The cost is $45-71.50 for three lessons or $85-121 for five lessons. Group Fitness Classes at the SRAC

Free fitness classes are offered to Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center members throughout the week. Classes include water aerobics, cycling, hybrid fitness, Tai Chi, yoga and Zumba. Schedules are available at the SRAC or online at sraconline.com. Day passes are available for purchase for non-SRAC members.

Youth Basketball Open Gym

The Selma Parks and Recreation Department is offering open gym for boys and girls (grades K-12) at Selma Elementary. The program will focus on skill development and conditioning in all areas of the game of basketball. Grades K-5 will meet from 3-4 p.m., grades 6-8 from 4-5, grades 9-12 from 5-6. Contact the office for more info.

Zumba

The Selma Parks and Recreation Dept. offers Zumba classes, which fuses Latin and International rhythms with a dynamic workout session that is fun and easy to do. Classes are at the Harrison Center for Active Aging weekly on Thursdays from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.

Tennis Camps

A week-long half-day QuickStart tennis camp for ages 7-10 will be held at the Clayton Community Park from 9 a.m. until noon daily from July 25-29.

A week-long half-day QuickStart tennis camp for ages 11-16 will be held at the Clayton Community Park from 9 a.m. until noon daily from July 25-29. Contact or visit the Clayton Parks Dept. website to register.

The cost for each camp is $60-75.

Girls Volleyball Camp

A volleyball camp for ages 9-14 will be held June 14-16 from 9 a.m. until noon daily at the Clayton Community Center. Basic skills will be covered. The fee is $45-90. Contact or visit the Clayton Parks Dept. website to register.

Pacers Baseball Camp

A week-long Paces Baseball Camp for ages 7-14 will be held June 25-29 from 9 a.m. until noon daily. Coaches from William Peace University will direct the camp, which covers hitting, fielding, throwing and base running. The camp will be at East Clayton Community Park and costs $90-110. Contact or visit the Clayton Parks Dept. website to register.

Challenger British Soccer Camp in Clayton

A Challenger British Soccer Camp will be held in Clayton from June 20-24. The camp includes programs for each age group.

First kicks for ages 3-4 is from 9-10 a.m daily and costs $99. Mini soccer for ages 4-5 is from 10-11:30 a.m. and costs $112. A half-day camp for ages 6-14 runs from 9 a.m. until noon and costs $155. A Golden Goal Bonus Camp for ages 6-14 is from 1-3 p.m. (for half-day campers) for $45. To register or for more info, visit challengersports.com.

Exercise classes

The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of exercise classes, including Zumba, yoga, pilates, cardio kick and more for all ages. For information on the offerings, times and costs visit townofclaytonnc.org online.

Tae Kwon Do

This Tae Kwon Do program for ages 7 and up focuses on self-confidence, discipline and physical fitness. The instructor, Joey Reeder, is an International Tae Kwon Do Federation certified black belt. Regulation uniforms are not mandatory. Testing to advance in belt rank is done for an additional fee. Classes start on the first Tuesday of each month and run from 6-8 p.m. Fees are $25-40.

Clayton Community Center Memberships

Memberships for use of the Clayton Community Center are available through the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department for residents of the Town of Clayton and non-residents. Non-residents rates vary from $50-160 yearly (depending on ages/numbers of family members), $8-20 monthly or $6-10 monthly. Residents fees are only $5 per year.

Volunteers needed

The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department is always looking for volunteers. Opportunities include park beautification, special events and work in the community garden.
