Cary student joins National Society of High School Scholars

Labannya Samanta of Cary, a student at Green Hope High School, was chosen to join the National Society of High School Scholars.

Fuquay-Varina school raises money

Fuquay-Varina Middle School’s fall sports program raised more than $2,200 for the school’s athletics program with a fundraiser at Applebee’s in September.

Fall Choral Concert

Cary High School’s Fine Arts Department’s Fall Choral Concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the school auditorium, 638 Walnut St., Cary. Admission costs $5 for adults and $2 for students, up to $15 per family.

‘Jeopardy’ Battle of the Millenium

In Hopewell Academy’s “Jeopardy” Battle of the Millenium, civic class students will take on Dave Traini, who won over $95,000 on “Jeopardy,” to see who knows the Wake County ballot for November. The game is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at 101 Preston Executive Drive, Cary. For details, go to bit.ly/Zyr8tV.

Spooky Walk and Trunk or Treat

Lufkin Road Middle School will host a Spooky Walk and Trunk or Treat for the community from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 1002 Lufkin Road, Apex. Admission costs $5.

Cary Band Day

Cary High School will host the 56th annual Cary Band Day with performances by 40 bands beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at 638 Walnut St., Cary. For details, go to www.caryband.org/cary-band-day.

Thales Academy

Thales Academy of Apex will host a tour of the junior high and high school programs from 8-9 a.m. and an open house for prospective students and families of the elementary school from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 1177 Ambergate Station. For details, go to www.thalesacademy.org.

Cary Choral Classic

Choral ensembles from Cary High School, Panther Creek High School and Green Hope High School will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Cary High School auditorium, 638 Walnut St., Cary. Each school’s ensemble will perform alone, and the three groups will perform three pieces together. Admission costs $5 for adults and $2 for students, up to $15 per family.

Winter Wonders

The Middle Creek High School PTSA will host the third annual Winter Wonders holiday craft and vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at 123 Middle Creek Park Ave., Apex.

Photo essay competition

The Cary Photographic Artists will sponsor a photo essay competition for Wake County students in ninth through 12th grade. Cash prizes range from $50 to $150, and the competition will end with an exhibit. For details, go to bit.ly/1kTh4U4.

To enter, choose one of four themes: “America to Me,” “Home Town Pride,” “Student Life” or “Our Natural World.” Send four images for your theme and a paragraph relating your photography to the theme to cpaoutreach@gmail.com by Thursday, Jan. 15.

Voice of Democracy Program

VFW’s Voice of Democracy Program, an audio-essay competition for scholarships, will accept submissions from students in grades nine through 12. The theme is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future.” For details, email vfwladiesaux@gmail.com.
