Construction has begun on a Costco in Apex, near the intersection of U.S. 64 and Laura Duncan Road.
Builders installed the main pad to the site in early August, and construction began shortly thereafter, Apex Town Manager Bruce Radford said Monday.
Radford said Costco has told the town that construction will take about 140 days, putting the store on track to open in November.
Costco couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, and a corporate spokesperson previously said the company typically does not comment on anything regarding individual stores.
However, a November opening would line up with what Dianne Khin, the director of Apex’s planning department, said in March about the new big-box store. Khin said Costco officials told her they wanted the store open in time for the Christmas shopping season.
Costco is a membership-only wholesaler of a wide range of bulk retail goods, from clothes to food to electronics. The Apex location also will have a gas station on site.
This would be Costco’s third location in the Triangle. Costco has warehouses in Raleigh and Durham.
