Cary Players host ‘Nunsense’ auditions

Cary Players Community Theatre Company will host auditions for the musical “Nunsense” at 6:45 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 5 and 6, with callbacks on Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. For details, go to www.caryplayers.org or email info@caryplayers.org.

Dance troupe auditions

Women 60 and older can audition for a new local senior dance troupe at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the N.C. Dance Institute, 5910-101 Duraleigh Road, Raleigh. Prior dance experience is preferred, and pre-registration is requested. For details, email jghinton@nc.rr.com or dsmith@nc.rr.com.

Art class in mixed media

Cary artist Grace Li Wang will teach a class for students 12 and older from 8 to 10 a.m. at her studio, 319 Lochside Drive, Cary. She will teach another class from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 8, at Southern Charm in Cary Towne Center, 1105 Walnut St. Participants will learn about art composition, color and the use of oil- and water-based materials for drawing and painting.

Reception for outdoor sculpture

A reception for an outdoor sculpture exhibition will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. The event will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment. Tickets are $40.

Triangle Academy of Dance open house

The Triangle Academy of Dance will host an open house with free trial dance classes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2918 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary. There will be refreshments, face painting and the chance to meet Disney princesses. For more information, go to www.triangle-academy-dance.com.

Depot Concert Series at The Halle

The Halle Cultural Arts Center kicked off the 2013 Depot Concert Series this month. The free outdoor concerts will continue once a month through October in the parking lot of the Historic Train Depot at 220 N. Salem St. All shows begin at 7 p.m. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Here’s the schedule:

•  Saturday, Aug. 17: Sweet Potato Pie.



•  Saturday, Sept. 14: Shine.



•  Friday, Oct. 11: Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line.

Swift Creek performance

Swift Creek will perform from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at “Pickin’ in the Pines” at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary.

Willie Nelson concert

Willie Nelson will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary. Tickets are on sale at the venue from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays or at www.etix.com. For details, call 919-462-2025 or go to www.boothamphitheatre.com.

Maze featuring Frankie Beverly

Maze will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary. Advance lawn tickets are $44.50, reserved and table seat tickets are $54.50, and lawn tickets the day of the show are $54.50. For tickets, call 800-514-3849 or go to www.etix.com.

Apex Jazz Festival

The Apex Downtown Business Association’s third annual Apex Jazz Festival will be on Saturday, Sept. 21, in downtown Apex. Artists will perform along Salem Street. Tickets are $10 and include entry to all participating venues. Sponsors and volunteers are needed for the festival.
