Apex baker places in National Gingerbread Competition

Jennifer Elmore’s “Fantastical Christmas Contraption” placed third in the 20th annual National Gingerbread Competition on Nov. 18 at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. She spent more than 1,800 hours and used 20 batches of gingerbread to make a structure based on the 2010 holiday window display of the Marks & Spencer department store in London.

Local students help N.C. Senate

Austin Bright of Morrisville and Austin Robert Kirley of Apex recently served as pages in the N.C. Senate. Pages serve for one week, attending Senate sessions and committee meetings and assisting staff members with clerical duties.

Austin Bright, a student at Panther Creek High School in Cary and the son of Shelley Bright, was sponsored by Sen. Martin Nesbitt.

Austin Kirley, a student at Apex High School and the son of Patrick and Susan Kirley, was sponsored by Sen. Tamara Barringer.
