Town of Cary employees complete certification course

The following Cary town employees who work in the planning department successfully completed the North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials Certification Course: Debra Grannan, senior planner; Ryan Blackburn, zoning compliance officer; and Khalil Nasir, zoning compliance officer.

Thirty hours of instruction are required and are spread over two weeks of in-class training, with an exam given at the end of training. In order to receive a passing score, students must answer a minimum of 21 out of 30 questions to receive certification.

Local Boy Scouts earn Eagle Scout rank

Boy Scout Troops 631 and 831 recently awarded three Boys Scouts with the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting.

For his Eagle Scout project, Spencer Payne built a 10-by-8-foot tool shed for Mills Park Middle School. Payne is a freshman at Panther Creek High School.

Karsten Eliason built a bench for Mills Park Middle School. Eliason is a graduate of Panther Creek High School.

Brady Bethers built an outdoor staircase at the Cary YMCA, adjoining two fields. Bethers is a senior at Panther Creek High School.

Troops 631 and 831 are sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Morrisville.

Cary Boy Scout earns Eagle Scout rank

Braiden Quinlan of Cary recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting.

For his Eagle Scout project, Quinlan led a group of Scouts and adults in the design and construction of a rain barrel irrigation system for the Community Garden at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church.

Quinlan is the son of Shane and Helen Quinlan and is a senior at Cary High School. He is a member Boy Scout Troop 213, which is sponsored by Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church.
