Say no to Morrisville trash fee
Morrisville is considering changing the fee structure for solid waste collection. Council member T.J. Cawley is right. In the council discussion on solid waste collection, he stressed that any decision on the introduction of a service change should be based on what is best for the residents.
In the town’s annual property tax payment, commercial properties currently pay 42 percent of the total solid waste collection costs. The remaining comes from property taxes paid by residents. Going to a separate fee paid by residents will result in residents paying the full cost for the pick-up. This will nearly double the expense paid by homeowners.
One proposal is to have Cary assume the collection with Cary determining the rate and service. Cary residents now are only provided a recycle collection every other week. Morrisville picks up every week. Our citizens will be paying more for less service.
You can be certain that residents will react negatively to the introduction of a substantial increase on their annual tax bill.
Based on this information, how is changing to a separate solid collection fee best for Morrisville residents? Let the council hear from you.
