The week ahead in southwestern Wake sports
Soccer start: Most of the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference will start league play in boys soccer next week, but Cary and Fuquay-Varina will go head-to-head on Wednesday, moving a game up from later in the season.
SWAC cross country: The first SWAC cross country conference meet is Wednesday. These were unpopular events last season. Runners are required to run in two of the three to be eligible for all-conference, and teams are limited to just 15 runners. Coaches and parents argued there was no need for the rule and it increased the likelihood of injury.
