Senior wins poetry contest

Nicole Kroushl of Clayton won first place in the International Junior Authors Poetry Contest.

The contest received 389 entries from young writers in 34 countries. Nicole’s poem, “Mood Lighting,” was the highest scoring entry in a highly competitive field of poems submitted by 167 young writers in the 15 to 17 age category.

Nicole is a senior at Corinth Holders High School in Wendell. She plans to attend UNC-Wilmington in the fall to study creative writing.
