Durham police are investigating an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred Thursday evening at Lakeland and Truman streets around 10 p.m.
Officers were called to the scene after an officer reported shots were fired over the police radio, according to a news release.
The officers who requested assistance said they were getting out of their vehicle to approach two black males walking near an abandoned apartment complex when one of the two men pulled out a handgun and fired six shots at the officer. One bullet struck the police vehicle. The officer took cover and returned fire.
The officer was not injured, according to the news release. It is unknown at this time whether any of the suspects were injured.
