Durham police officer seriously injured in accident

A Durham police officer was seriously injured when her police car was struck at the intersection of North Roxboro and Geer streets early Saturday morning.

Lt. L.D. Campbell was driving a marked 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe west on Geer Street shortly after 3 a.m. when the left front of her vehicle was struck by a 1999 Dodge Durango, which was driven by Marcus Leon Fox, 37, of Liberty Street.

Fox attempted to flee the scene on foot, but he was caught a short time later.

Campbell's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Fox was charged with felony hit-and-run, driving while impaired, driving while his license was revoked, running a red light and simple possession of marijuana.
