Police say man died after being shot in Durham parking lot

Police are investigating a shooting death early Friday in the 1500 block of Savannah Place in southern Durham.

Officers were called to the scene shortly after 1 a.m., where they found a man in the parking lot of the Savannah Place Apartments with an apparent gunshot wound, according to a news release. The man was taken to a local hospital and died a short time later.

The death is being investigated. Police spokesman Wil Glenn said investigators are not able to designate the shooting as a homicide at this point. The body will be sent to the state medical examiner.
