A Durham man was arrested Tuesday and charged with several crimes in connection with a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a motorcyclist last week.
Stanley Keitt has been charged with felony hit-and-run, driving while his license was revoked, failure to yield right of way and driving left of center. Keitt, 37, was placed in Durham County Jail under a $1 million bail.
The accident took place just after 5 p.m. on May 20 at the intersection of Old Chapel Hill Road and Williamsburg Road. Thomas Stephen Bigelow, 61, of Durham was riding a 1981 Suzuki motorcycle when he was hit by a Nissan Sentra making a left turn from Williamsburg Road onto Old Chapel Hill Road.
The driver of the Sentra drove off before police arrived, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael. Officers found a damaged Sentra behind some buildings on Shannon Road the following day, Michael said.
Bigelow remained hospitalized Tuesday.
