Police probe shootings of man, woman in Durham

Police said two people were wounded early Monday in separate shootings about 2 miles and a half-hour apart.

The first shooting was the more serious of the two. Police found a badly wounded 48-year-old woman in a house in the 900 block of Scout Drive, a few blocks south of the Durham Freeway, west of South Roxboro Street.

Investigators said it appeared that the woman had been shot after answering a knock at her door. The shooter may have fled in a white car, police said, but they issued no description of a suspect after the 2:05 a.m. incident.

About 30 minutes later, a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg while he was sitting in a parked car in the on Ashe Street, a few blocks north of East Pettigrew Street and near the intersection of Harvard Street, police said.

The wounded man and another person in the car drove to a Benjamine Street before they called 911, police said.

The second victim was taken to a hospital.
