Fire in a duplex in northern Durham displaced five people Sunday afternoon, the fire department reported.
The fire, to which crews were dispatched at 2:02 p.m., started on the second floor of a duplex at 6 Sidbrook Court and spread, Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi said.
Damage was most severe there, Iannuzzi said, but the whole structure was damaged, and three adults and two children who lived there were left homeless.
Firefighters called the American Red Cross to help the five people find shelter.
Iannuzzi said units reported heavy smoke and flame were visible when the first truck arrived.
