A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train on the west side of Durham early Friday afternoon.
Durham police on Saturday identified the man as Paul Klemmer, 54.
The westbound Piedmont had just left the Durham station headed toward Charlotte when it struck Klemmer at about 12:30 p.m., said Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds. The train was carrying 98 passengers, and none of them or any crew members were injured, Leeds said.
Police said Klemmer was pronounced dead at the scene near the U.S. 501 overpass.
The train was delayed for more than an hour and a half, Leeds said.
