A single-car crash that happened when a driver swerved to avoid a dog in a road knocked out electric service to almost 700 Duke Energy customers Wednesday morning, police and the company said.
The wreck on University Drive near Starlight Drive brought down power lines about 5 a.m., police said. They closed University Drive in that area.
Duke’s outage-reporting website listed 690 customers without power and said all should be back online by 1 p.m.
There were no serious injuries, police said.
The driver of the car told officers she had swerved to avoid a dog in the road, officers said. The car went out of control and hit a utility pole, they said.
