A fox that a man encountered last week outside a Pleasant Drive house was rabid, the Durham County Sheriff's Office reported.
The man is being treated for rabies exposure because he had a scratch that might have happened when he kicked the animal, sheriff’s spokeswoman Tamara Gibbs said Tuesday.
The man ran into the fox, which he said was aggressive, last Friday in the 700 block of Pleasant Drive.
He put a trash bin over the animal and called authorities. The ill animal was having a fit when a deputy arrived, and it died shortly after, Gibbs said.
