The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a couple was found dead with gunshot wounds inside a smoke-filled house in Four Oaks.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from family members Sunday morning asking deputies to check on 33-year-old Kyle Trabel on Scout Road.

Responding deputies saw heavy smoke coming out of the home and asked for the fire department to come.

Inside, firefighters found 39-year-old Miriah Woody dead on the bed in the main bedroom, along with a man later identified as Trabel also dead in the room. The two were in a dating relationship, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Both had been shot, but the Sheriff’s Office said no suspects are being sought in their investigation, suggesting a possible murder-suicide.

The Sheriff’s Office released no other information including the source of the smoke and what type of weapon was used.

We will update this story as we get more information.
