Police on Thursday night charged 38-year-old George Stanton Ribar with being the man who drove a Jeep Cherokee into the front of a convenience store a week ago and then left the scene.

The damaged Jeep was covered by a tarp in a garage at Ribar’s Damon Street home, officials said in a statement.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked license.

The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. on Dec. 4. Police said witnesses told them the vehicle came off U.S. 70, went through the parking lot and smashed into the Handi Mart at 10419 U.S. 70 West before backing out and speeding away.

No one in the store was hurt.

Police said they were still trying to determine why the Jeep hit the building. The statement said interviews and tips to police led them to Ribar.
