A woman riding a bicycle was killed Friday morning after she and a sport utility vehicle collided on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Police have not released the name of the cyclist but did say she was 57. She died after being taken to UNC Hospitals, police said.
The accident happened about 9:40 a.m., officers said.
The cyclist was going south on MLK Boulevard just before the intersection with Hillsborough Street when she was hit, said Lt. Josh Mecimore, spokesman for the Chapel Hill Police Department. The SUV was exiting the Run in Jim’s gas station at the intersection, Mecimore said.

Police could not say whether the cyclist was riding with or against traffic, or whether she was wearing a helmet. Mecimore said their investigation was continuing and that it wasn’t clear whether the driver of the SUV could face charges.
Police will release more details about the accident as they become available, Mecimore said.
Friday’s accident came five days after a Durham man was hit by a car on U.S. 15-501 near East Lakeview Drive. Police are still looking for the driver of the car, who left the scene after hitting the man, police said.
Joseph Russo, 23, of Durham, was listed in critical but stable condition at Duke Hospital, police reported.
They also reported finding evidence at the crash scene that may help them narrow their search. Anyone who noticed a vehicle stopped in that area Sunday night or Monday morning is asked to call the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
