Two pedestrians in Chapel Hill crosswalk are hit by vehicle

Two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk on West Rosemary Street in Chapel Hill on Tuesday, police said.

The pedestrians, whose names were not immediately released, were walking through a crosswalk in front of Shortbread Lofts on West Rosemary at about 3:27 p.m. when they were struck by a vehicle, Chapel Hill Police Lt. J. Britt said in a news release.

The pedestrians were transported to the UNC Hospital Emergency Room with serious injuries.

The driver was cited with failure to reduce speed and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

No additional information was immediately available.
