Human remains found in woods near Mebane have been identified as a missing Hillsborough woman, though how she died had not been determined as of Thursday.
Stephanie Michele Rodgers of Jones Road in Hillsborough was reported missing to Hillsborough police on May 7, 2015.
N.C. Department of Transportation personnel found human remains in a wooded area on Buckhorn Road, near the Buckhorn Jockey Lot and Flea Market, on May 16 and were sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh to be identified. Rodgers was identified using dental records.
Rodgers’ death still is under investigation by the medical examiner’s office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Hillsborough police. As of Thursday, foul play was not suspected, according to the sheriff’s office.
