A Raleigh man found dead on Aug. 13 apparently fatally wounded himself with a knife by accident, police reported.
Ausencio Leal Velasquez, 50, of Raleigh, was carrying a large, unsheathed knife in a tote bag over his shoulder at the time of his death, according to the Raleigh Police Department.
Investigators believe he fell or slumped backward to the ground, forcing the knife upward, stabbing him just below his left arm, police reported on Tuesday. Velasquez’s body was found outside at about 10 a.m. on the 3800 block of South Wilmington Street.
Investigators found no indications of foul play and believe the wound was sustained accidentally.
