Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 40 early Sunday when a driver collided with a slow-moving car riding on a flat tire, state troopers said.
About 12:30 a.m., Kevin Lamont Johnson of 2801 Midway Park in Raleigh was traveling west in the far right lane, his tire flat and his car moving very slowly, troopers said.
A car behind Johnson’s Chevrolet swerved to go around it. A second driver, Jermaine Judd of Colonial Drive in Raleigh, could not react in time and struck Johnson’s car in the rear, troopers said.
Johnson and a passenger in the rear seat of his car were killed. The passenger’s name was withheld pending notification of family. Judd and two other passengers in Johnson’s car were transported to WakeMed.
The State Highway Patrol has contacted the Wake district attorney’s office about possible charges.
