SUV hits school bus on Buffaloe Road in Raleigh, police cite driver

A portion of Buffaloe Road near North New Hope Road was closed Friday morning after a sport utility vehicle hit the rear of a school bus about 6:30 a.m., and police said the SUV driver had been cited for violations.

There were no reports of injuries among the students, who the Wake County Public School System reported were on their way to Rolesville High School.

Police said there were fewer than 20 students on the bus, which they said had stopped.

The male driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe struck the rear of the bus, police said, and he was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, whose name had not been released, was cited for passing a stopped school bus and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, police said.

Some lanes on Buffaloe Road were closed for about an hour.
