Wake Forest police shoot two dogs after two people bitten

Police on Tuesday morning shot and killed two dogs who they said had bitten two people and frightened others.

One dog was shot in the parking of the Gateway Commons shopping center off N.C. 98, police said.

The other was found about an hour later in the parking area of the New Hope Apartments and shot there, they said. Officers had tracked the dog from the shopping center, police said.

The incident began at Gateway Commons with a call to police about 7:40 a.m. that two people had been bitten, town spokesman Bill Crabtree said.

“This was a very scary situation for those who were threatened or attacked by these dogs,” said Police Chief Jeff Leonard. “This was an unfortunate incident, but both dogs were extremely aggressive. We never want to have to shoot a dog, but in this case our officers had no choice.”

The dogs were taken by Wake County Animal Control officers, police said.
