The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles license plate office on New Bern Avenue will begin staying open an hour later than usual two days a week as part of the agency’s efforts to be more customer friendly.
Beginning Thursday, the office will be one of only three state-owned license plate offices in the state that will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays instead of the usual 5 p.m. The other two are in Huntersville and Charlotte.
The New Bern Avenue office will continue to close at 5 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays.
The DMV began testing the extended hours last year at the office in Huntersville, which remains open an hour later Monday through Friday. DMV has also begun offering expanded evening and Saturday morning hours at driver license offices around the state, including ones in North Raleigh and Cary.
