A woman was killed early Sunday when an SUV in which she and her husband were traveling was struck by a car driven by a 19-year-old on Jones Sausage Road.
Rebie Joniel Cooper, 30, was sitting in the front passenger side of a 2003 Chevrolet SUV driven by her husband, Timothy Keith Cooper, 34. Also traveling north on Jones Sausage Road at about 7:30 a.m. was Keondre Lamont Griffin, 19, driving a 2011Buick sedan.
Griffin was arrested on charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, speeding, and failure to reduce speed.
“As the two vehicles approached Integrity Drive, Griffin’s car struck the rear of Cooper’s SUV,” poice said in a statement. “The impact caused Cooper’s vehicle to leave the roadway to the right, go down an embankment and strike a tree.”
Both of the Coopers were taken to WakeMed, where Rebie Cooper died as a result of injuries from the crash. Timothy Cooper had injuries that were not life-threatening. Griffin did not have injuries.
An investigation was continuing Sunday.
